"... and a time to every purpose under the heaven." King Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes how God determines the events of life. These events in our lives are determined by our walk with God and how close we are to Him. There is a time to be born and die, break down and build up, weep and laugh, mourn and dance, to keep and to cast away, a time of love and hate, and a time of war and peace. Solomon concludes the verses with a question, "What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?" He's asking what are you going to benefit from through the works that you are doing for God. Throughout this third chapter and the book of Ecclesiastes, it speaks of vanity. Vanity is trying to be happy apart from God. It can't happen. All is vain that is done without God.
When we come to the realization that we need a Savior and receive Him into our hearts, He is a forever friend. He will never leave us nor forsake us. That walk doesn't end the day after we get saved, it's a daily walk. We need Him in everything we do to be happy in this world. He is happy. There is nothing good about us, only Him that is within. There is a purpose for your life and there is a time for you to fulfill it. In the mean time, staying close to Him in prayer and reading His word keeps His spirit alive in us. This particular chapter in Ecclesiastes talks of the work that is to be done and the work that will be judged and rewarded.
There will be a time to die and in the that time the work that we that are saved will be judged. Will it have all been vain, due to the fact of not including God? Will He get the honor and glory from your life lived through Him? "Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?"
In whatever season of life you're in right now, look upward. Romans 8:28 says, " And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." He will be with you, guiding you, holding your hand and whispering sweet peace.
