I read a devotional recently called, “Broken Crayons Still Color.” A devotional that pushed me to forgive myself because despite the wear and tear on my spirit, I can still color. God calls me His masterpiece.
We are worse than our enemies sometimes for it being so hard to shake the devil in our head telling us we are not worthy. It is difficult to feel like I can serve because I know what sins I have committed. I know what dirty thoughts come to my mind. I know when I should have spoke up and said something for the Lord and did not. And the worst part, I know the Lord knows how awful I am. Reading II Chronicles, Jehoshaphat was a ruler in Judah that the Lord was with. He obeyed God in all things and God took are of him. Chapter 20 gives the account of Judah being invaded by Moab. Jehoshaphat calls upon God asking where He is. Read verses 15-19 to see what our unfailing Father answers.
“And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.
And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord. And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high. And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
Past sins can be so overwhelming, because we let the devil creep in and keep reminding us. But God says, get up tomorrow and go out against them. He knows what sins you have committed and will commit, but still comes to you with an unwavering blanket of love. The battle is not yours. We have no reason to fear. Look at who is fighting our battle! No reason to fight. Look at who is carrying us! We can tear ourselves apart from within, but there is One who is fighting for you; to keep those crippling, unworthy thoughts from coming to mind. Trust Him with all your heart. Allow Him to shoulder your burdens.
